Steel Framing Systems (SFS)

Steel framing systems are a type of external wall. They use a lightweight steel frame to create the inner structure of the wall with outer cladding and internal linings.

Steel framing Systems (SFS) are a modern structural system which are suitable for quick constructions on contemporary buildings. This type of construction is becoming more popular for a range of different building types including; warehouses, apartments, hotels, retail units etc.

Within an SFS, the steel columns and beams are assembled in a framing pattern which makes them strong and able to support multiple floors as well as roofs and walls along with cladding, insulation and lining.

Benefits of Steel Framing Systems

SFS comes with many benefits. Some of these are;

  • Economic
  • Strength
  • Flexible
  • Highly durable
  • Sustainable
  • Cost effective
  • Quicker to install than alternative options
  • Fire rating available

Different Steel Framing System Options

There are three main types of steel external wall systems, these are;

Infill walls; where panels are constructed of individual elements and cut to length to be installed onsite. The panels fit between the steel frame and consist of a bottom track which is attached to the floor as well as a head track which is attached to the ceiling/ underside of the floor above.

Continuous walls; where panels are also known as over sail panels. C sections are used, along with bracket connections to fix the c sections to the steel frame.

Panelised systems which are prefabricated, they have insulation boards attached offsite and are craned into position to be fixed to the steel structure.

At Tapper Interiors, we have the skills and expertise to fulfil the requirements for each type depending on your requirements.
